{"id":50954,"date":"2014-11-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-06T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/11\/06\/bridge-to-care-refugee-health-fair-set-for-saturday\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T20:40:46","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T01:40:46","slug":"bridge-to-care-refugee-health-fair-set-for-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/11\/06\/bridge-to-care-refugee-health-fair-set-for-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"Bridge to Care Refugee Health Fair set for Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Free health screenings, flu shots and health education on a variety of issues will be provided at the fifth annual Bridge to Care Refugee Health Fair, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Monroe Middle School, 5105 Bedford Ave.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which is open to refugees living in the Omaha area, is organized by the Bridge to Care Refugee Program, an interprofessional student-run\/community engaged organization coordinated by the Service Learning Academy in the UNMC College of Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>The health fair will feature screenings and education to include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>blood glucose\n<li>blood pressure\n<li>vision\n<li>nutrition education\n<li>sexual health\n<li>vaccinations and immunizations\n<li>lead, bed bugs and lice\n<li>dental hygiene\n<li>developmental milestones for youth\n<li>over-the-counter drug display\n<li>maternal and child health\n<li>linkage to care, Alegent-Creighton Florence clinic\n<li>Medicaid services\n<li>Kid&#8217;s Corner activities and health education.<\/ul>\n<p>For the past four years, more than 650 UNMC students have engaged with more than 3,500 refugees from eight different countries through the program. <\/p>\n<p>The initiative brings together students and community leaders, health care providers and community organizations to assess needs, aid in understanding the health care system, and provide services.
