\n<\/TABLE>At right, Leo McCarthy, M.D., professor emeritus, University of Indiana School of Medicine Indianapolis (UNMC College of Medicine class of 1964) presents a bust of Sir William Osler (1849-1919), \u201cFather of Modern Medicine\u201d to Emily McElroy, director, McGoogan Library of Medicine. The sculpture was done in 1971 by Craig Gosling of the University of Indiana School of Medicine. Dr. McCarthy was the recipient of a Distinguished Alumnus Award during UNMC alumni weekend activities in October. The Osler bust will be displayed in the library.<\/p>\n

Poynter historical marker<\/h3>\n

\nThe 501st Nebraska state historical marker commemorating the 100th anniversary of Poynter Hall and the College of Medicine\u2019s move to the present campus in 1913 was dedicated during alumni weekend activities in October. The historical marker was made possible by the Wigton History Fund and the Special Collections Department of the McGoogan Library of Medicine. Pictured with the marker are (left to right): Dr. Jim and Judy Wigton, and Drs. Bob and Deb Wigton.\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Hein is CEO of Regional Provider Network<\/b>
\nMichael Hein, M.D., has been hired as the chief executive officer of the Regional Provider Network (RPN). John Fraser, chairman of the board of RPN, announced the hiring recently following a national search. \u201cDr. Hein is uniquely qualified to assume this role,\u201d Fraser said. \u201cOur entire board gave careful thought to the type of leader needed to fully realize the RPN\u2019s vision and ensure long-term success. Dr. Hein brings the clinical expertise, leadership capabilities and vision required to take RPN to the next level.\u201d Hein was formerly the chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. The Regional Provider Network is an alliance of independent hospitals, including Nebraska Medicine, throughout Nebraska to improve quality and efficiency of health care delivery. <\/p>\n

Biomechanics Research Building annual report out<\/b>
\nThe Biomechanics Research Building on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha has published its 2014 annual report. To read the report, click here<\/a>. The Biomechanics Research Building is an interdisciplinary enterprise that features collaboration between scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and clinicians, including UNMC faculty.<\/p>\n

Diabetes Fair to be held today<\/b>
\nA jointly sponsored Diabetes Health Fair between eight organizations, including Nebraska Medicine, Methodist Health System and CHI Health, will be held today on World Diabetes Day, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus, 6001 Dodge St. The fair is free and open to the public. It features health screenings, holiday cooking demonstrations, Yoga and Zumba activities, individual sessions with Ask an Expert (doctor, dietitian, pharmacist, diabetes educator), advice from a Medicare insurance specialist, access to over 40 diabetes resource vendors, raffle drawings and much more.
