\nFor the past several years, the UNMC Department of Public Relations has been creating brief one-minute videos each week for KETV (Ch. 7) in Omaha. The videos feature UNMC faculty as they answer basic questions of interest to the average viewer. The segments run on KETV\u2019s morning newscasts on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. They also are distributed to other Nebraska TV and radio stations after they air on Ch. 7.<\/p>\n

\nHere\u2019s a sampling of four of the videos:<\/p>\n

\nVideo 1<\/a>: Trevor Vanschooneveld, M.D.,<\/strong> infectious diseases. \u201cWhat is the whooping cough vaccine\u2019s effectiveness and what do I need to do?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nVideo 2<\/a>: Philipp Streubel, M.D.,<\/strong> orthopaedic surgery. \u201cWhen I open a jar, I have pain in my thumb.\u00a0Could it be arthritis?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nVideo 3<\/a>: Patti Fries, O.D., <\/strong>ophthalmology. \u201cWhat is an appropriate age for kids to wear contact lenses?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nMindy\u2019s story<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\nMindi Laaker was seemingly healthy and was just weeks away from a trip with friends to Cancun, Mexico. But everything changed when Mindi collapsed from a heart attack while out getting groceries. Mindi was taken to a nearby hospital, but was soon transferred to Nebraska Medicine – Nebraska Medical Center and placed on ECMO, a machine that does the work of a patient’s heart and lungs, giving the patient’s own cardiovascular system time to recover. Mindi didn’t recover in time to go to Cancun, but did make a full recovery.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
