The shared UNK\/UNMC complex will include nursing and allied health programs. Drs. Meyer and Karst were on campus during a visit to Kearney to meet with area health care leaders and others to give updates about the Health Science Education Complex. Other members participating in the visit were: Charlie Bicak, Ph.D., UNK senior vice chancellor for academic and student affairs; and members of the UNMC College of Nursing, Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean; Lynnette Stamler, Ph.D., associate dean of academic programs; and Mary Ann Mertz, Ph.D., assistant dean of the College of Nursing Kearney Division. Also participating were members of the University of Nebraska Foundation. For more information about the project, click <a href=\"http:\/\/unknews.unk.edu\/2014\/12\/23\/construction-update-health-science-education-complex-dec-23\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n<b>Fever research study seeks participants interested in wearable tech<\/b><br \/>\nThe Clinical Research Center is seeking participants in a fever research study<br \/>\nusing the Microsoft Band, a wearable fitness device that can also be used for a variety of consumer applications during the study. The study seeks participants that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are becoming ill and have or may develop a fever.\n<li>Are 19 years of age or older.\n<li>Use any smartphone.\n<li>Can wear a Microsoft Band for 21 days.<\/ul>\n<p>Contact the Clinical Research Center to participate at 402-559-7685. (IRB#: 697-14-EP)<\/p>\n<p><b>WIN seeks winning grant proposals from UNMC<\/b><br \/>\nUniversity of Nebraska groups and Nebraska nonprofit organizations striving to address critical community needs or wishing to make a significant local or state impact are invited to submit their funding ideas to Women Investing in Nebraska (WIN). For information about how to submit a letter of inquiry, click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.womeninvestinginnebraska.org\">here<\/a>. Letters of inquiry are due by Feb. 20. WIN will again award two grants this year of equal value. One grant will be awarded to an organization or group directly affiliated with the University of Nebraska, and another grant will be awarded to a Nebraska charitable organization. Last year, WIN awarded two grants of $76,000 each.<\/p>\n<p><b>Free lunch comes with complimentary panel discussion<\/b><br \/>\nOn Thursday, Jan. 29, UNeMed will present, &#8220;Free Lunch,&#8221; with a complimentary panel discussion about potential alternate career opportunities for scientists. The free food and complimentary discussion will be at the Durham Research Center Auditorium at noon. &#8220;Free Lunch&#8221; and the one-hour panel discussion is a joint venture sponsored by UNeMed, UNMC&#8217;s technology transfer office, and UNMC&#8217;s Postdoctoral Association. UNeMed president and CEO Michael Dixon, Ph.D.; UNeMed vice president and director of marketing and licensing Steven Schreiner, Ph.D.; and UNeMed licensing associate Agnes Lenagh, Ph.D., will discuss how their career paths began with scientific pursuits and led to their current work in the technology transfer business. The discussion also will likely cover other avenues away from the bench, and how others might follow a similar path.<\/p>\n<p><B>NU Foundation email addresses to change<\/b><br \/>\nThe University of Nebraska Foundation announces that its email addresses for employees has changed. The new email addresses use an employee&#8217;s first name and last name separated by a period and follows this format: <b>first.last@nufoundation.org.<\/b> As another example, the address for someone named John Smith would be john.smith@nufoundation.org. The foundation&#8217;s previous email addresses will be delivered for a few weeks more, but the new addresses should be updated and used
