In UNMC Today&#039;s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who will become tomorrow&#039;s health care professionals. Today we meet Tyler Scherr, new president of the Graduate Student Association.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<b>Name:<\/b> Tyler Scherr<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Hometown:<\/b> Aberdeen, S.D.<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Program\/Year:<\/b> Graduate Studies, department of pathology and microbiology, (just finishing my fourth year this week).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<b>Activities:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nMidwest Scientific Research Career Fair Organizational Committee<\/li>\n<li>\niExcel Student Committee<\/li>\n<li>\nUNMC student delegates<\/li>\n<li>\nUNMC 3D Printing Club<\/li>\n<li>\nDepartment of pathology and microbiology student representative<\/li>\n<li>\nUNMC student senator<\/li>\n<li>\nGraduate Student Association president<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<b>Hobbies:<\/b><br \/>\nDisc golf, tennis, 3D printing, reading, hiking, studying philosophy and comparative religion. <b>Staying Balanced:<\/b><br \/>\nMy wife, Joelle, and 3-year-old son, Jaxton, bring tremendous balance to my life. I also try to exercise daily, stay politically and socially active, and not neglect my spiritual wellbeing. I&#039;ve recently begun experimenting with meditation. <b>List three things people may not know about you:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nGrowing up, I played on a traveling soccer team for six years, winning tournaments throughout the Midwest and even winning the South Dakota State Tournament.<\/li>\n<li>\nAfter graduating high school, I had the opportunity to travel to Kenya and it was an unforgettable experience. Among the highlights were petting a rhinoceros, eating crocodile and getting attacked by safari ants.<\/li>\n<li>\nI&#039;m awful at small talk, but almost always enjoy a good conversation on science and technology, religion, or politics. Basically, if it&#039;s been the topic of a TED Talk, I&#039;m likely to enjoy discussing it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"display: none;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\"
