Carrie Wieners Meyer, curator of The Durham Museum, will speak on “The Hidden Treasures of the Byron Reed Collection” at noon on Tuesday, June 23, at the Sorrell Center, Room 4053.<\/p>\n

Where can you see a first edition King James Bible, a coin minted during the time of Julius Caesar, and documents signed by 46 of the signers of the Declaration of Independence all in the same place? Right here in Omaha.<\/p>\n

The Byron Reed collection, gifted to the city of Omaha upon Byron Reed’s death in 1891, is the third largest rare coin, document, and book collection in the United States. Recently, a new inventory of the collection has been undertaken and many fascinating pieces have been brought to light; many of which have never before been on public display. <\/p>\n

Bring a lunch, join Meyer, and see some of Omaha’s best kept secrets.<\/p>\n

The lecture is offered through the Time Travelers partnership, which provides free museum admission for UNMC and Nebraska Medicine employees, students and their immediate families, with valid identification. The partnership also offers lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.<\/p>\n
