Tawara Goode, the founding director of the National Center on Cultural Competency (NCCC) at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., will speak at noon Friday in the Maurer Center for Public Health, Room 3013.<\/p>\n

\nGoode will speak on “Addressing Cultural Competency and Cultural Diversity in an Academic Medical Setting.”<\/p>\n

Goode has developed initiatives and programs to facilitate the design, implementation, and evaluation of cultural and linguistic competency that address the needs of diverse audiences (e.g. health care, mental health, community organizations, professional societies, institution of higher education). <\/p>\n

She is recognized as a thought leader in the area of cultural and linguistic competency. She has had a primary role in creating four instruments and protocols to assess organizational cultural and linguistic competency and a checklist series for professionals in the health, mental health, and education fields. <\/p>\n

Goode conceived and wrote a curricula enhancement module series for leadership education for health professionals, as well as developing the Policy Brief Series that delineates organizational policy and structures to support cultural and linguistic competency as essential approaches in the goal to eliminate disparities. She has built the NCCC into a nationally and internationally recognized award-winning program. <\/p>\n
