As a part of the launch of TravelSmart, a “Remote Control Carpool Race” was held. <\/p>\n

The event pitted Nebraska Medicine LiveGreen volunteer Gregg Dahlheim against UNMC LiveGreen volunteer Euem Osmera. The goal: to pick up more carpoolers and bring them back to the starting point the fastest. <\/p>\n

Organizers forgot to tell the intrepid (and ecologically friendly) racers, however, that when the car was racing back towards the finish line, the left\/right controls would be opposite — which made the race a little more difficult! (Tragically, one Polly Pocket and one My Little Pony carpooler were ejected from a vehicle that hit the traffic cone.) <\/p>\n

But a good time was had by everybody else! If you missed the race or the video you can still watch it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As the goal at TravelSmart is to never be wasteful, the two remote control cars, which were generously provided by Verdis Group, were then donated to children at the hospital in the pediatric unit. Working with Child Life Services, TravelSmart was able to identify two brothers who have both spent time in the hospital. They were here recently spending time with their younger sister who was in the PICU. They are very supportive of their sister, but spending time in the hospital as a patient or a visitor can make for a long day, especially for a child.<\/p>\n

As the accompanying photo shows, they’re both very excited about their new remote control cars.<\/p>\n
