Owl Ride raised more than $50,000 for the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities<\/b>
\nThe 2015 Owl Ride, held July 11, raised more than $50,000. The ride benefits the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities, which supports social and recreational programs for people with developmental disabilities in the Omaha metro area. MFD, a non-profit led and run by volunteers, funds community programs operated by the professional staff of UNMC’s renowned Munroe-Meyer Institute and by other community partners. More than 1,500 registered riders took part in the event, a non-competitive tour through Omaha’s vibrant urban core. For a photo album of the event, click here<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>Tanvir Hussain, M.D., will serve as Nebraska Medicine’s medical director of quality and analytics, with his primary focus on ambulatory quality. He will aid in the creation of an ambulatory balanced scorecard, quality assurance curriculum and population healthy management initiatives. His work in the ambulatory environment will complement Julie Fedderson, M.D., who oversees quality initiatives in inpatient areas. In addition to his role as medical director, Dr. Hussain also will be a member of the UNMC General Internal Medicine faculty and will see patients in hospitals and ambulatory clinics. Dr. Hussain, an internal medicine specialist, comes to Nebraska Medicine from Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he completed a master’s degree in health science and fellowships in patient safety & quality improvement and analytics leadership. He currently serves on the National Programming Committee for the Society of General Internal Medicine and the American College of Medical Quality, where he was recently chosen as a National Quality Scholar.<\/p>\n

Fall intramurals will be held despite remodel<\/b>
\nCo-ed volleyball and men’s basketball leagues will begin this fall at the Center for Healthy Living in spite of remodeling going on at the center. “Because we moved all of our weight machines into one half of our gym, the other half will be set aside for intramurals,” said Rick Fulton, intramural coordinator. “We may have to start intramurals earlier in the day and go later into the night, but we are not going to turn away any interested teams.” The season starts on Sept. 29. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation event a success<\/b>
\nThe Nebraska Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosted the Links to a Cure Dinner Gala & Golf Benefit on July 23 at the Embassy Suites La Vista and July 25 at Quarry Oaks Golf Course. The events resulted in $231,240 raised in the fight against the disease. Money raised at the event benefits the cystic fibrosis program at UNMC and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.<\/p>\n

\nRahman Alim Strum<\/span>
\n<\/TD>

\n<\/TABLE>In June, Lynn Ellis presented scholarships to three students in memory of her son, Rahman Alim Strum, former executive director at the Omaha Area Health Education Center who graduated from UNMC with a master’s degree in public health administration and health informatics. Strum died in a motorcycle accident in 2012 at the age of 30. The Rahman Alim Strum Scholarship Inc., honors the memory of Rahman’s humanitarian works around the world, his love for family and friends and scholastic achievements. Strum traveled to third world countries to study abroad and preserve clean water. He was involved in clubs and organizations as well as community development. Recipients included Marie Serevin, a student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
