Faculty, staff and students at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are invited to join Dana Cowen, associate curator of European art at Joslyn Art Museum, as she presents a slide-illustrated overview of “Fugitive Colors in Joshua Reynolds’ ‘Portrait of Miss Franks’ ” from noon to 12:50 p.m. today in the Sorrell Center, Room 2018.<\/p>\n

Joshua Reynolds (1723-92) was the first president of the Royal Academy in London and the foremost portraitist in England. Interested in chemistry and highly experimental with his pigments, Reynolds saw many of his paintings begin to deteriorate even during his lifetime. <\/p>\n

This talk will consider how Joslyn’s “Portrait of Miss Franks” came to fruition and how it fits within the larger discussion of Reynolds’ exploratory methods and techniques.<\/p>\n

The event is offered through the Passport Partners program, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate family with a valid identification badge, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
