{"id":54241,"date":"2015-11-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2015\/11\/30\/new-ophthalmology-journal-to-be-housed-at-tei\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T20:54:21","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T01:54:21","slug":"new-ophthalmology-journal-to-be-housed-at-tei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2015\/11\/30\/new-ophthalmology-journal-to-be-housed-at-tei\/","title":{"rendered":"New ophthalmology journal to be housed at TEI"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"300\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/AJOC1124.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:0.85em;line-height:150%\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>Quan Dong Nguyen, M.D., chairman of the UNMC Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and director of the Truhlsen Eye Institute (TEI), has been named inaugural editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports.<\/p>\n<p>This new online-only, open access journal is a companion publication to the prestigious American Journal of Ophthalmology and will be published by Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical, and medical information products and services.<\/p>\n<p>The editorial office will be housed at TEI, and Anna Boyum, Ph.D., a neuroscientist and 2013 graduate of UNMC, has been chosen as the managing editor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The new journal welcomes the submission of original, previously unpublished case reports directed to ophthalmologists and visual science specialists,&#8221; Dr. Nguyen said. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nguyen has assembled an esteemed editorial board for the journal, which consists of national and international leaders in different areas of ophthalmology, who have published extensively, including: Vikas Gulati, M.D., associate professor of ophthalmology and director of the glaucoma service at TEI; and Diana V. Do, M.D., professor of ophthalmology, director of the Carl Camras Center for Innovative Clinical Research in Ophthalmology at TEI, and an international leader in retina diseases.    <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cases presented in the journal will be challenging and stimulating, and presented in an educational format to engage the readers as if they are working alongside the caring clinician scientists,&#8221; Dr. Nguyen said.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions are to be clear, concise, and well-documented reports. Brief reports, case series, meta-analyses, and editorials on specific themes are also welcome, he said. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our hope is for the journal to serve as a dedicated forum for clinician scientists around the world to share relevant information on the diagnosis and management of the most difficult cases that they encounter in their daily practice, as well as to provide insightful
