{"id":54631,"date":"2016-01-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-21T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2016\/01\/21\/college-of-public-health-hosts-annual-wellness-fair\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T20:56:21","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T01:56:21","slug":"college-of-public-health-hosts-annual-wellness-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2016\/01\/21\/college-of-public-health-hosts-annual-wellness-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"College of Public Health hosts annual Wellness Fair"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>The College of Public Health will be holding its annual Wellness Fair on Jan. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Durham Outpatient Center atrium. <\/p>\n<p>The move to the new location was driven by increased interest in the four-year-old event, said Lea Pounds, Ph.D., a member of the College of Public Health&#8217;s Wellness Council, which planned the event.<\/p>\n<p>The fair will feature a large variety of exhibitors, and the goal is to encourage people to pay more attention to wellness in all its different aspects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our dean, Dr. Ali S. Khan, has issued the challenge to make Nebraska the healthiest state,&#8221; she said. &#8220;One way we can do that is to start in-house, to focus on our own employees and students to help them become healthier.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The fair will feature UNMC-based exhibitors, such as the Center for Healthy Living, Faculty Employee Assistance Program, LiveGreen, and Olson Center for Women&#8217;s Health, as well as visitors such as the community-supported agriculture program run by Tom\u0101to Tom\u00e4to and the American Heart Association.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Chancellor (Jeffrey) Gold is the medical chair for the Omaha\/Council Bluffs Heart Health Walk this spring, so the timing is perfect for the American Heart Association to be at the Wellness Fair talking about heart health. They&#8217;ll also help people sign up for the Nebraska Medicine\/UNMC Health Walk team,&#8221; Dr. Pounds said.<\/p>\n<p>New to the fair this year will be the UNMC College of Dentistry&#8217;s dental clinics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oral health is an area people may not think about when they think health and wellness,&#8221; Dr. Pounds said. <\/p>\n<p>Past fairs have drawn about 100 people. The Wellness Council anticipates the new location at the DOC may increase crowds to between 150 and 200, as the central location on campus makes it easier for faculty, staff, and students to attend
