UNMC and UNK host 2 foreign ambassadors at the HSEC<\/b>
\nLast week, the UNMC Colleges of Allied Health Professions, Public Health, and Nursing participated along with the University of Nebraska at Kearney in hosting two foreign ambassadors in the Health Science Education Complex on the UN-K campus. The ambassadors are Bockarie Kortu Stevens, ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the U.S., and Jeremiah Sulunteh, ambassador of the Republic of Liberia. Pinaki Panigrahi, M.D., Ph.D., UNMC College of Public Health, moderated a discussion with the ambassadors focusing on health care challenges facing their countries, including the Ebola crisis. Research!America highlights Dr. Fox in new video<\/b>
\nHoward Fox, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, discusses his work and why federal funding is critical for continuing his HIV research in a YouTube video on the Research!America channel. The video is part of the organization’s Campaign for Cures video series. Research!America is the nation’s largest not-for-profit public education and advocacy alliance. \nThe Truhlsen campus events center hummed with activity on April 14 as more than 400 faculty, students and staff took part in Culture Fest 2016.<\/p>\n

Attendees sampled ethnic foods from local restaurants and enjoyed live performances by the Southern Sudanese Community Association, a Puerto Rican music and dance troupe, as well as demonstrations of Persian and Native American dancing.<\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>Faculty and nursing students from the UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division and a UNMC medical student participated in the annual Teddy Bear Clinic in Scottsbluff at the Riverside Discovery Center. Nursing instructor, Wendy Wells said the clinic gives students an opportunity to share their skills with the public, promote health care as a career and help children and parents feel more comfortable during health care visits. Nursing student Rita Hepler said the clinic helped her learn how to interact with the pediatric population. <\/p>\n

Ali advancement system site, newsletter now available<\/b>
\nNews and information about the planned universitywide Ali constituent relationship management (CRM) system, including the first newsletter, is available at nebraska.edu\/ali<\/a>. CRMs are databases that hold all the critical information about a particular audience.
