Library’s ‘pet therapy’ event honors Steve Bridges<\/b>
\nThe McGoogan Library hosted a pet therapy event Tuesday at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza.<\/p>\n

Coloring pages, along with coloring pencils and popcorn were provided to students and staff who dropped by.<\/p>\n

The event was held in memory of Steve Bridges, who died two years ago at the age of 56<\/a>. Bridges worked at the library for nearly 30 years and was well liked by students and staff at UNMC.<\/p>\n

“He was a strong believer about going the extra mile to relieve stress for students when they needed it the most,” said Danielle Drummond, one of the event organizers.<\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>The American Physiological Society (APS) has announced that Harold Schultz, Ph.D., will be a councilor and part of its leadership team. Dr. Schultz and his fellow new officers were elected by the APS membership and took office in April. <\/p>\n

Dr. Schultz is a professor of physiology at UNMC. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and conducted his postdoctoral training at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco. <\/p>\n

He currently serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology and the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, and is a senior editor for the Journal of Physiology. <\/p>\n

He also has served on chapter and section advisory committees for the APS and as secretary and then chairman of the APS Neural Control & Autonomic Regulation Section. An active member in the Nebraska Physiological Society, Dr. Schultz has served terms as councilor and president.<\/p>\n

MMI’s Fisher, Piazza to appear in BBC documentary<\/b>
\nThe United Kingdom Society for Behavior Analysis invited the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Wayne Fisher, Ph.D., and Cathleen Piazza, Ph.D., to provide training on autism and pediatric feeding disorder to their members at University College London. While in London, the BBC asked Drs. Fisher and Piazza to participate on camera in a documentary the network is currently developing on pica, a serious behavior disorder involving the ingestion of inedible materials (e.g., dirt, metal objects) often seen in children with autism.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
