{"id":55755,"date":"2016-05-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-24T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2016\/05\/24\/faculty-forums-set-to-discuss-nebraska-medicine-governance\/"},"modified":"2022-08-21T12:00:45","modified_gmt":"2022-08-21T17:00:45","slug":"faculty-forums-set-to-discuss-nebraska-medicine-governance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2016\/05\/24\/faculty-forums-set-to-discuss-nebraska-medicine-governance\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty forums set to discuss Nebraska Medicine governance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>\nA series of forums is being held to discuss the final governance integration documents that will formally create Nebraska Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe forums are open to all full-time faculty of the College of Medicine&#8217;s clinical departments and includes members of the department of pediatrics who are members of Children&#8217;s Specialty Physicians. The meetings will provide an executive summary detailing the proposed changes to the UNMC Physicians&#8217; Bylaws and the College of Medicine&#8217;s Medical Service Plan and an opportunity to ask questions. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nApproval of the governance integration documents will require a majority of all members of UNMCP, not just a majority of those who chose to vote. To reach the number of votes required and truly reflect the desire of the members, it will be important that all clinical faculty take the time to review the documents and vote, said Bradley Britigan, M.D., dean of the UNMC College of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;If this does not occur, we could have an overwhelming majority of members in favor of the governance changes, but the measure could fail if many clinical faculty decide not to vote,&#8221; Dr. Britigan said. &#8220;In effect, a failure to vote is the equivalent of casting a &#8216;no&#8217; vote.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nCarl Smith, M.D., chair of the UNMC Department of OB\/GYN and president of UNMCP, said the forums also will address previously planned changes to the UNMCP retirement program that will take effect July 1. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;This is a good opportunity for faculty to learn about those changes as well,&#8221;\u00a0Dr. Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>\nUpcoming forums include:<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>May 31 &#8211; <\/strong>5 p.m., Room 4053, Sorrell Center<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>June 1 &#8211; <\/strong>5 p.m., Glow Auditorium, Children&#8217;s Hospital &amp; Medical Center<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>June 6 &#8211;
