Dr. Mohr receives American Liver Foundation fellowship<\/b>

\n<\/TABLE>Ashley Mohr, Ph.D., postdoctoral research associate in the UNMC Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, has been awarded the 2015 Charles Trey, M.D., Memorial Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Award from the American Liver Foundation for her project “FGFR4: regulation of miR-93 and characterization of a novel FGFR4 fragment.” Dr. Mohr, a native of Grand Island, received her bachelor’s degree from Dana College and her Ph.D. in cancer research from the Eppley Institute in 2013. That same year, she joined the lab of Justin Mott, M.D., Ph.D., in biochemistry and molecular biology. <\/p>\n

Dr. Mohr was awarded this fellowship based on a competitive application she submitted to the American Liver Foundation. The fellowship is for one year and provides supplemental salary support. <\/p>\n

Each year, the American Liver Foundation offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Awards to encourage the career development of individuals with research potential who require additional research training and experience. The award supports investigational work related to liver physiology and disease in order to prepare the recipient for a career in independent research.<\/p>\n

Retirements announced<\/b>
\nThe UNMC Department of Human Resources has released the list of retirements spanning the months of May and June. Of the six people on the list, four of them have 29 or more years of service – DeAnn Valverde, clinic administration, College of Dentistry, 35 years; Diane Bessette, neurological sciences, College of Medicine, 34 years; Darwin Brown, physician assistant, College of Allied Health Professions, 29 years; and Peter Coccia, M.D., emeritus professor, pediatrics-hematology\/oncology, College of Medicine, 29 years. Here’s the complete list of retirees: <\/p>\n

  • Brown retired May 10 (start date Sept. 8, 1986)\n
  • LaDean Gibbs, internal medicine administration, retired May 26 (start date March 12, 2007)\n
  • Valverde retired May 27 (start date April 6, 1981)\n
  • Dr. Coccia will retire July 1 (start date July 1, 1987)\n
  • Catherine Bevil, Ed.D., professor, College of Nursing-Omaha Division, will retire July 1 (start date Jan. 1, 1998)\n
  • Bessette will retire July 1 (start date Oct. 26, 1981)<\/ul>\n
