{"id":55961,"date":"2016-06-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-06-23T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2016\/06\/23\/inbre-scholars-dalton-hegeholz\/"},"modified":"2022-08-29T15:15:12","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T20:15:12","slug":"inbre-scholars-dalton-hegeholz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2016\/06\/23\/inbre-scholars-dalton-hegeholz\/","title":{"rendered":"INBRE Scholars: Dalton Hegeholz"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>The Nebraska Institutional Development Award Program (IDeA) Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program has welcomed 27 undergraduate students from across Nebraska as they embark on their summer research experience at Creighton University, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and UNMC.<\/p>\n<p>Below, Dalton Hegeholz talks about his INBRE experience.<\/p>\n<p><b>What should we know about you?<\/b><br \/> <br \/>\nI&#8217;m excited to be a part of the INBRE program and I look forward to the experience I will gain from it.<\/p>\n<p><b>What or who influenced your interest in science?<\/b><br \/>\nMy high school anatomy teacher and his ability to show me how science is intertwined in everything we do, see, and experience.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is it about science that excites you?<\/b><br \/>\nI like that there will always be something new that can be learned. You can never know everything there is to know because new discoveries are constantly being made, and there is so much knowledge out there that we haven&#8217;t even scratched the surface of.<\/p>\n<p><b>Will you pursue a career in science? If so, what do you hope to accomplish?<\/b><br \/>\nI am looking to pursue a career in medicine. I hope to apply the knowledge and skills that I will develop in the future so I can help others and improve people&#8217;s standard of living. <\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it important to have programs like INBRE?<\/b><br \/>\nPrograms like INBRE allow young students to expand their knowledge of science, gain research experience, and help them figure out what they may or may not want to do in the future. It provides a springboard for students to further a career in research or allows them to see that perhaps they want to take a different route. Either way, it is helpful to gain the experience and knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INBRE Scholar hopes to pursue a career in
