Second annual Health Professions Career Day draws Omaha youth<\/b>
\nMore than 200 underserved youth ranging in age from 14-18 from North and South Omaha took part in the second annual Health Professions Career Day at UNMC on June 22. There, the youths explored different health professions including nursing, pharmacy, medicine, public health and several allied health professions. (See a photo album of the event here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

The career day was sponsored by the Center for Reducing Health Disparities in the UNMC College of Public Health. Participants came from various programs throughout the community, including Omaha Public Schools students, UNMC Summer Internship students, and students from a summer program called Step Up, sponsored by the Empowerment Network.<\/p>\n

MMI’s Dr. Godfrey presents on engaging diverse communities at Harvard<\/b>
\nMaurice Godfrey, Ph.D., professor, Munroe-Meyer Institute, has been invited to present on engaging diverse communities at the Leaders of Industry Conference at the Personal Genetics Education Center (PgED) at Harvard Medical School.<\/p>\n

The invitation caps a busy summer for Dr. Godfrey, who recently was appointed to a three-year term on the Information and Education Committee of the American Society of Human Genetics, and who organized and led a session on working with Native American communities at the annual Science Education Conference for the National Institutes of Health.<\/p>\n

Presentation to explore respite resources<\/b>
\nMembers of the UNMC community who are acting as caregivers for family members with disabilities, chronic health conditions or for aging parents or grandparents are invited to a presentation on respite resources offered in Nebraska.<\/p>\n
