Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Name:<\/strong> Brian Peters<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hometown:<\/strong> Elkhorn, Neb.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program\/Year:<\/strong> College of Medicine, M1<\/p>\n<p><strong>Education:<\/strong> University of Colorado Denver, B.S. in chemistry, summa cum laude<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most recently, I was a volunteer handyman for Volunteers of America, serving vulnerable individuals and families in the community, and Explore and Discover, an infant-toddler program with a strong community focus, parent education and social connection opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The autonomy to be solely responsible for the outcome of one of these projects leads to feelings of accomplishment, reward, and satisfaction and continue to drive my motivation to help others.<\/p>\n<p>Since beginning medical school, I also have attended several special interest group meetings in order to determine which new and exciting&nbsp;extracurricular activities to participate in over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staying Balanced:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The best way to take meaningful, productive breaks from studying is to spend time with my beautiful wife and two adorable children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three things people don&#039;t know about me:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I spent 14 years in Vail, Colo., where I worked as a snowboard coach.<\/li>\n<li>I have competed at a professional level in downhill mountain bike racing and traveled the country playing competitive rugby.<\/li>\n<li>The injuries I
