During the last year, a committee has been working to increase the number of lactation rooms for nursing mothers in all Nebraska Medicine and UNMC buildings. <\/p>\n

A committee was formed to provide input on the location and design of the rooms, in partnership with Facilities Management and Planning. Eight spaces have been identified to be renovated into lactation rooms, with 10 more under review.<\/p>\n

“We know how important these rooms are to our colleagues who are committed to breastfeeding,” said Hannah Wignall, facilities management and planning.<\/p>\n

In late November, a “Mamava” will be installed in the Durham Outpatient Center lobby, underneath the escalators. A Mamava is a portable suite, allowing women a private place to breastfeed their baby or to express milk. The Mamava will be open to both the public and UNMC\/Nebraska Medicine colleagues.<\/p>\n

“We will trial the Mamava in DOC and see if this could be expanded to other areas of campus,” Wignall said.<\/p>\n
