\nPaul Dobesh, Pharm.D., professor of pharmacy practice, has been honored with the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Cardiology Practice and Research Network (PRN) Mentor Award for 2016. <\/p>\n

Dr. Dobesh was nominated by Toni Ripley, Pharm.D., from the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy and current Cardiology PRN Chair.<\/p>\n

“I have known Paul for about 17 years, and have had the honor of being mentored by Paul, as well as seeing him mentor others throughout this time,” Dr. Ripley said.<\/p>\n

“Though Paul is one of the most brilliant and accomplished cardiovascular pharmacists I know, after 20 years in practice, he is just as well known for his mentorship and servant-like heart for his profession.”<\/p>\n

Residents put casting skills to test<\/h3>\n

As any good orthopaedic surgery resident knows, practice makes perfect when it comes to casting. Each year, the UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation teams up with companies like 3M to host a casting clinic for residents and other support staff to develop and practice proper casting technique. This year’s clinic was held Sept. 24 and included more than a dozen participants. “Patients” included other orthopaedic residents, and even some of their children, who enjoy volunteering to have casts placed on their arms and legs. Chief residents and faculty members also were on hand to give instruction and pointers when necessary. The annual event is a valuable learning opportunity and a fun chance to practice on each other. The Stork’s Nest anniversary diaper drive will be held Oct. 10 – 14 in the Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium. Bring a package of any size diapers to the reception on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and learn more about the Stork’s Nest. In addition to the celebration, Books Are Fun will be in the West Atrium all week and proceeds will benefit the Stork’s Nest. <\/p>\n

Stork’s Nest is designed to promote prenatal care participation and encourage healthy behaviors during pregnancy through two components, incentives and education. Stork’s Nest clients “earn” points toward incentives such as maternity or baby care items through a variety of positive, health-promoting activities such as attending prenatal visits, participating in prenatal education classes, and stopping at-risk behaviors, such as smoking cigarettes and consuming alcoholic beverages, reducing stress, etc.<\/p>\n

Since 1992, Stork’s Nest has served more than 7,000 women in the Omaha area. The Stork’s Nest mission is to help give babies a healthier start in life skills by providing incentives for healthy behaviors. A national program, The Stork’s Nest is sponsored locally by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the March of Dimes in conjunction with Nebraska Medicine and UNMC. The Stork’s Nest is located on the fourth floor of the Durham Outpatient Center at the Olson Center for Women’s Health, and at the Fontenelle Clinic, 5050 Ames Ave. Hours vary for each location.
