Dr. Fletcher honored by alma mater as distinguished alumnus<\/b>
\nCourtney Fletcher, Pharm.D., dean of the UNMC College of Pharmacy, was recently named the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy’s 2016 distinguished alumnus. Dr. Fletcher was honored at Wyoming’s College of Health Sciences and School of Pharmacy Homecoming Oct. 7-8.<\/p>\n

Dr. Fletcher was lauded for a career which includes a pioneering role in antiviral pharmacology, including HIV therapeutics. He received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy with honors at UW in 1978, and later earned a Pharm.D. from the University of Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Dr. Fletcher told Wyoming pharmacy students: “Pharmacy is a great career, with new career choices and paths unfolding on a regular basis.”<\/p>\n

Ribbons honored those who have battled ovarian cancer<\/b>
\nA patient, Dianne Sedlacek-Kielniarz, created a way to commemorate or honor those who have battled ovarian cancer. At the Olson Center for Women’s Health on the fourth floor of the Durham Outpatient Center, a potted tree was situated during Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month in September inviting visitors to place a ribbon “to remember or honor someone diagnosed with ovarian cancer.”<\/p>\n

\nIn the photo at right, Sarah Dillon, a faculty member in the UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division, shows Loomis High School student Emily Torres how to use a stethoscope to listen to a patient’s heart. Emily was one of about 40 high school students who attended the Health Professions Week Community Connect event at the Health Science Education Complex on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus to learn about careers in allied health, nursing, exercise science, social work, speech pathology and other health professions.<\/p>\n

\nOn Monday, the UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division and the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions-Kearney Campus, hosted University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds, Ph.D., and his Kearney Region Advisory Council at the Health Science Education Complex on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.<\/p>\n

Seventh annual Refugee Health Fair set for Saturday<\/b>
\nBridge to Care’s Seventh Annual Refugee Health Fair will provide free health screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Benson High School gym, 5120 Maple St. The event is free.<\/p>\n

Bridge to Care is an interprofessional, community-engaged and student-led legacy project of UNMC’s Service Learning Academy in the College of Public Health. <\/p>\n
