He will serve as president-elect until fall 2018 when he will become president.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wisecarver serves as vice chair for clinical affairs in the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology. He also is medical director of Nebraska Medicine&#8217;s clinical laboratories and Human DNA Identification Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am truly honored to have been elected to a society that represents the entire medical laboratory team and impacts health care around the globe,&#8221; Dr. Wisecarver said. &#8220;&#8216;As a result of my involvement with the ASCP, I have gained a greater understanding of the critical roles that laboratory medicine and pathology play in helping patients both here and abroad.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wisecarver&#8217;s involvement in ASCP has included serving on the Council on Continuing Education, and later on the board of governors of the ASCP Board of Registry (now Board of Certification). He helped organize a new examination committee to develop the molecular biology examination and associated credential that is now being offered through the ASCP Board of Certification. He also has organized and presented molecular diagnostics workshops offered both through ASCP and the United States and Canada Association of Pathology.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wisecarver received his doctor of medicine degree from UNMC and a bachelor&#8217;s degree in biology from Doane College in Crete. He earned a doctorate degree in physiology from Creighton University. He completed a residency in combined anatomic and clinical pathology at UNMC then in 1990 joined the UNMC Department of Pathology\/Microbiology as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1995 and to professor in 2002.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>James Wisecarver, M.D., Ph.D., will become president of the
