Kearney, Lincoln nursing students aid in YouRhealth community health fair<\/b>
\nTen nursing students from the Kearney and Lincoln Divisions recently participated in Lexington High School’s first YouRhealth community health fair, a pilot project to develop new health curriculum courses in Lexington, Neb. UNMC students helped the high school students with planning, surveyed students about their health knowledge, made presentations and did blood pressure and blood glucose screenings. YouRhealth is part of the UNL Minority Health Disparities Initiative, which builds long-term relationships to develop a health course curriculum that equips students to be viable public health educators. The YouRhealth students learn the skills necessary to create research-based public health campaigns. <\/p>\n

Dr. Linder elected to board of directors of Streck, Inc.<\/b>
\nJames Linder, M.D., chief strategist of the University of Nebraska System and president of the University Technology Development Corporation, has been elected to the board of directors of Streck, Inc., an Omaha-based firm that develops and manufactures products for clinical and research laboratories.<\/p>\n

Dr. Linder was a longtime faculty member in the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology. He also served as interim dean of the UNMC College of Medicine and as interim president of the University of Nebraska System. He will serve on Streck’s compensation committee.<\/p>\n

College of Medicine Dean’s Offices collect for Food Bank<\/b>

\n<\/TABLE>This year, the College of Medicine Dean’s Offices organized a food drive for the Food Bank for the Heartland. From Nov. 28 through Dec. 12, the drive collected 396 pounds of canned and boxed items, toiletries and paper products. “We want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who contributed,” said Lori Clapper, one of the organizers of the drive.<\/p>\n

Dr. Culross named director of CON Learning Resource Center<\/b>
\nBeth Culross, Ph.D., assistant professor in the College of Nursing, has been named director of the College of Nursing Learning Resource Center. <\/p>\n

“She will build on the excellent work of Marge Kaiser, PhD, who has been serving as the Interim Director of the LRC,” said College of Nursing Dean Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D. <\/p>\n

Dr. Culross is a board certified gerontology clinical nurse specialist and a certified rehabilitation nurse. Her dedication to the care of older adults and her accomplishments in this area were recognized by the Nebraska Chapter of the March of Dimes in 2015 when she received their Nurse of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
