Gold, M.D., and Terry Moore<\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>To the movers and shakers in Omaha, Terry Moore is a household name.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s also a decades-long champion of UNMC.<\/p>\n<p>Omaha leaders gathered last month to recognize a native son whose 40 years as leader of the Omaha Federation of Labor AFL-CIO has boosted metro Omaha.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Terry has played an important role in strengthening the city of Omaha, and has championed projects that have helped grow the economy and quality of living,&#8221; said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. &#8220;We&#8217;re grateful for his support of UNMC and his leadership within the community.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a voice for the Omaha labor force, Terry has had a front row seat to UNMC&#8217;s construction boom,&#8221; said Bob Bartee, vice chancellor for external affairs. &#8220;His support and counsel have been invaluable.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Moore has been a strong advocate of the Fred &amp; Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, calling it an investment of taxpayer dollars. Both the Omaha City Council and Douglas County Commissioners provided funds to help construct the cancer center. The facility, slated to open in June, will save &#8220;thousands of lives,&#8221; Moore said, because of the research that will take place inside, and the economic boost it brings to Omaha&#8217;s work force. <\/p>\n<p>During the luncheon, he also referenced UNMC&#8217;s planned iEXCEL\u2120 facility and the impact it, too, will have on the community.<\/p>\n<p>Moore&#8217;s support of UNMC dates back to 1991, when he was a key player in helping UNMC renovate a Renaissance mansion at 428 S. 38th St. to become Potter&#8217;s House, an inexpensive place for families to stay who had a family member going through a solid organ transplant at Nebraska Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s not a finer, more dedicated individual than Terry Moore,&#8221; said Keith Swarts, interim director of UNMC&#8217;s Asia Pacific Rim Development Program (APRDP). &#8220;He not only said what he was going to do, but he also delivered on it.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>In 1992, President George H.W. Bush recognized Moore with a Thousand Points of Light Award for his role in creation of the Potter House.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Terry Moore recognized by
