This was solidified during my training at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, where we frequently dealt with ill travelers from Southeast Asia. My time in the military pulled me into a lot of exciting work with infectious diseases and my assignment to Fort Detrick solidified my interest in biodefense.
