College of Nursing Kearney students meet with state legislators<\/b>
\nStudents, alumni and faculty from the UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division traveled to Lincoln Feb. 9 to attend the Nebraska Nurses Association Nurses’ Day at the legislature. The annual event provides an educational experience for nurses and nursing students. The students learned about advocacy issues, nursing regulations and legislation that impacts nurses, their patients and the general public. The group had lunch with various senators, learned how to be advocates and met with Sen. John Lowe, Kearney’s representative in the legislature. The Kearney nursing students are currently enrolled in the Leadership in Professional Practice class.<\/p>\n

\n <\/TABLE>Mary Clausen, senior programmer\/analyst in ITS application services, announced her retirement effective March 3.<\/p>\n

“During her 18 years of service, Mary has been responsible for writing a significant number of SAP programs to support UNMC’s critical business processes,” said Nicole Becker, associate director for ITS application services. “Mary’s ability to understand the customer’s business processes, along with her SAP development, has made her a trusted resource for many here at UNMC. She will definitely be missed.” <\/p>\n

Retirement plans include bird watching, cycling and environmental volunteering for places such as Fontenelle Forest. <\/p>\n

“While Mary prefers to go quietly into retirement without a formal gathering, ITS thanks her for her dedicated service to UNMC, and congratulates her on her retirement,” said Kim Strohbehn, ITS business operations administrator. <\/p>\n

UNMC student Michael Price presents at Gordon Research Seminar<\/b>
\nMichael Price, a third-year M.D.\/Ph.D. student, was selected to give an oral presentation at a Gordon Research Seminar for Cilia, Mucus and Mucociliary Interactions<\/a> in Galveston, Texas, earlier this week. This presentation was related to Price’s work studying the effects of alcohol in contributing to increased risk for pneumonia, specifically due to a defect in mucociliary clearance and motile cilia function. His work is funded by the National Institutes of Health though an NRSA F30 grant awarded to Price.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
