Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:black\">Name:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:black\">&nbsp; Brian Coburn&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:black\">Hometown:&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:black\">Spearfish, S.D.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:black\">Program\/Year:&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:black\">Third-year medical student in the&nbsp;M.D.\/Ph.D. Scholars Program&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:black\">Education:&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:black\">B.S. in biochemistry and political science<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:black\">Activities:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">National coordinator and ex-officio member of the&nbsp;board of directors for the Society of Student-Run Free Clinics<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Intramural curling and bocce ball&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">Rheumatology&nbsp;research&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Staying Balanced:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">I love trying out new ways to be active. During the fall, I started learning how&nbsp;to rock climb. More&nbsp;recently, I have spent a month doing spin classes and running stairs to prepare for the Trek up the Tower race in the First National Bank building. When I can get away from Omaha, I enjoy hiking in national parks and skiing in the Rockies.&nbsp;When I need to slow down, I like playing board games and&nbsp;trying out new restaurants around Omaha with friends.
