This marked the third consecutive year the event has topped 500 skaters, and the first time it has exceeded the 600 mark. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The event is held in memory of event founder Colleen Wuebben, who was diagnosed with Parkinson&#039;s in 2005 at the age of 52 and died in 2013 at the age of 60. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>To see a photo album of the event, <a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHskN4CQG9\"><span>click here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Jenny Knutson, daughter of Ted and Colleen Wuebben and one of the event coordinators, said this year&#039;s skate-a-thon raised more than $17,000. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With this year&#039;s proceeds, the UNMC Skate-a-thon for Parkinson&#039;s has now raised more than $172,000 over the past seven years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>BHECN holds sixth annual mentorship dinner<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span>The Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) hosted its sixth annual mentorship dinner at Joslyn Castle on Jan. 25, bringing together 100 students, trainees, providers, educators and advocates to network, mentor and make connections. Behavioral health students and professionals representing counseling, social work, psychiatry, psychology, nursing, physician assistant programs and more participated, along with students from the High School Alliance program at UNMC. View the BHECN Mentorship Dinner video <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8pM4gZ8jij8&amp;t=17s\"><span>here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>UNMC student Michael Price presents at Gordon Research Seminar<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span>Michael Price, a third-year M.D.\/Ph.D. student, was selected to give an oral presentation at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grc.org\/programs.aspx?id=17447\"><span>Gordon Research Seminar for Cilia, Mucus and Mucociliary Interactions<\/span><\/a> in Galveston, Texas, earlier this week. This presentation was related to Price&#039;s work studying the effects of alcohol in contributing to increased risk for pneumonia, specifically due to a defect in mucociliary clearance and motile cilia function. His work is funded by the National Institutes of Health though an NRSA F30 grant awarded to Price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>UNMC hosts panel on &quot;Avoiding Medical Negligence&quot;<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span>UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., welcomed U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg and assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert Stuart, Bob Homan and Tim Hook on a recent visit to campus. They conducted a presentation titled, &quot;Avoiding Medical Negligence &#8211; A U.S. Attorney&#039;s Office Medical Malpractice Panel.&quot; The event was aimed at UNMC medical students, residents and physicians.<\/span><strong><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Nebraska Medicine to offer new primary and immediate care<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span>Nebraska Medicine plans to open a new clinic in southwest Omaha, expanding its primary and immediate care services. Nebraska Medicine-Chalco is scheduled to open this fall on the southwest corner of 168th Street and Giles Road. The building has not been constructed.&nbsp;<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The 12,000-square-foot building will include 15 exam rooms, five consult rooms, one procedure room and radiology services. It will be Nebraska Medicine&#039;s fourth Immediate Care Clinic and will be open on weekends, holidays and after hours. Another new Nebraska Medicine clinic is scheduled to open July 1 in La Vista.
