\n <\/TABLE>A total of 131 faculty members, celebrating service milestones of 30, 20, 10 and five years, will be recognized during the Annual Faculty meeting on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Durham Research Center Auditorium. <\/p>\n

Below, two colleagues with 30 years of service share their favorite UNMC memories.<\/p>\n

Paul Esposito, M.D., professor, orthopaedic surgery<\/b>
\nWhen I joined the orthopaedic faculty at UNMC there were only three other members of the department and John Connelly was the chair. Over the past 30 years, it has been an honor to watch the department grow into a well-balanced, nationally recognized center of orthopaedic clinical care, teaching and research, under the leadership of Dr. James Neff, and Dr. Kevin Garvin, after Dr. Neff’s untimely death. I continue to have the privilege of working with some of the finest orthopaedic surgeons and pediatric specialists in the world.<\/p>\n

The highlight that surrounds me daily is the development of Children’s Specialty Physicians, which has allowed us to develop a world-class regional center for children by combining the strength of Children’s, Creighton, UNMC and the community pediatric physicians. The nursing and medical staff are without peers, as far as I am concerned. This community has been supportive of the effort to provide the highest quality of care for all children in our region, whose parents trust us with caring for their children in their most vulnerable times.<\/p>\n

On a personal note, over the past 15 years I have been privileged to be part of an internationally recognized multi-disciplinary program to provide care to children with osteogenesis imperfecta. Families from all over come to Children’s because they know they will be treated with compassion and competence by our world-class nurses and clinical faculty. It has been a joy to be able to change the way treatment for these children and adults is provided, not only here, but by colleagues around the world.<\/p>\n

\nMy most rewarding experience at UNMC was working with the faculty group\/College of Medicine Dean’s Office. My favorite memory was being installed as the David T. Purtilo Distinguished Professor of Pathology & Microbiology. David was my mentor and friend and the chair of the department from 1981 to 1992.<\/p>\n
