Munroe-Meyer volunteers help put the fun in fitness<\/b>
\nMembers of the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s physical therapy department, and the institute’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) fellow, volunteered recently at FUNFitness<\/a>. FUNFitness is a fitness screening program, coordinated by MMI’s Marne Iwand in conjunction with th Special Olympics. Iwand helped recruit volunteers from Creighton University, UNMC, and Clarkson College to make the event a success. According to a Special Olympics website, FUNFitness educates “athletes, coaches, families and caregivers about the importance of flexibility, strength and balance,” as well as providing “a hands-on opportunity for Special Olympics athletes to learn about physical therapy.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Thompson elected to Society of Hospital Medicine board<\/b>
\nThe Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) has announced that Rachel Thompson, M.D., associate professor, internal medicine, was elected to its board for a three-year term. Dr. Thompson is medical director for clinical care transitions where she founded the section of hospital medicine. “It is a true honor to join the board. Hospital medicine is at the front lines of care improvements nationally, and SHM provides the framework and the professional home for our contributions. Together as members of the hospital medicine community, we are making amazing strides for our profession,” she said. Representing the fastest growing specialty in modern health care, the Society of Hospital Medicine is the leading medical society for more than 57,000 hospitalists and their patients.<\/p>\n

Public Health’s Morris recognized for ‘Health Inspiration’<\/b>
\nUNMC’s Mary Morris, administrative associate in the College of Public Health’s Department of Biostatistics, received the Health Inspiration Award at the 16th Annual William M. Kizer Light of Wellness Awards Dinner, hosted by WELLCOM on April 27 at Creighton University. Nineteen local professionals were honored for their efforts in embracing wellness and serving as role models for others. Award winners were recognized in three categories: health leadership, health transformation and health inspiration.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
