The Nebraska Institutional Development Award Program (IDeA) Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program has welcomed 26 undergraduate students from across Nebraska as they embark on their summer research experience at Creighton University, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and UNMC. <\/p>\n

Below Gabrielle Brumfield talks about her INBRE experience.<\/p>\n

What should we know about you?<\/b>
\n“I have always lived in small towns, and I also go to college in a small town. I am studying chemistry at Chadron State College. The INBRE program has allowed me to participate in research that I would not otherwise be able to do.” <\/p>\n

What or who influenced your interest in science?<\/b>

\n“I remember I first became really interested in science as a seventh-grader. There was a genetics chapter in my science textbook that fascinated me.” <\/p>\n

What is it about science that excites you?<\/b>
\n“Even though it seems like we already know so much about the world around us, in reality we know so little. I want to be a part of the journey to further our understanding, specifically of the human body.” <\/p>\n

Will you pursue a career in science? If so, what do you hope to accomplish?<\/b>
\n“I would like to pursue a career in medicine. Research is an interest of mine, and I believe that in the future I may be able to bring some clinical understanding to labs.” <\/p>\n

Why is it important to have programs like INBRE?<\/b>
\n“Undergraduate research is not readily available at my college. Research has always been an interest of mine, but I would not be able to explore that interest without INBRE. This program is allowing me to participate in work that I may turn into a career.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
