It seems everybody wants to get a look at the impressive Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center these days. On June 13, members of the University of Nebraska Athletic Department stopped by for a tour hosted by Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., left, director of the cancer center. Among those on the tour were Husker football coach Mike Riley, right, and athletic director Shawn Eichorst, center.\n<\/p><\/div>\n

High school students attend Health and Wellness Summer Camp<\/b>
\nHigh school students participated in “Be a Paramedic” as part of Health and Wellness Summer Career Camp at Northeast Community College recently. At the two-day camp, students explored the health care industry as they took part in hands-on activities led by instructors, health care professionals and Northeast students. They also learned more about the paramedic, health information management systems, nursing, personal training and physical therapy assistant programs offered at Northeast.<\/p>\n

Free seminar on pre-hospital care of athletes on Aug. 4<\/b>
\nA free seminar on emergency care of athletes in pre-hospital settings will be held from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 4 at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Community Engagement Center at the Dodge Street campus. The seminar is designed for athletic trainers, EMTs, team physicians and physicians working sidelines. Topics will include cardiac, heat, concussion and spine injuries. To ensure seating, please RSVP<\/a> by Aug. 2. Please note: seating is limited to the first 100 people. For questions, please contact Sam Wilkins<\/a> at (402) 554-3254.<\/p>\n

Conoan now certified electron microscopy technician<\/b>
\nNick Conoan in the Electron Microscopy Core Facility at UNMC has passed the written and practical exams given by the Microscopy Society of America. He is now a certified electron microscopy technician, the highest level of certification in electron microscopy. Now, both electron microscopy specialists in the UNMC core facility are CEMTs. No other facility in the area is staffed exclusively by CEMTs. Tom Bargar, who has been the senior technician in the core for almost 20 years, is the other CEMT at UNMC.
