The McGoogan Library of Medicine will host a new exhibit, “Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons,”<\/a> today through Oct. 21 on the sixth floor of Wittson Hall. <\/p>\n

In conjunction with the exhibit, Hassan Tetteh, M.D., will deliver a presentation titled “Don’t be Trapped by Excellence in the Right Upper Quadrant: How to Thrive and Exceed Expectations in Surgery” to the UNMC Department of Surgery from 8-9 a.m. Sept. 27 in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater. <\/p>\n

He also will deliver a presentation titled “Embracing Diversity for Improved Health Outcomes” from noon-1 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014. <\/p>\n

Dr. Tetteh is command surgeon at the National Defense University, associate professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, adjunct faculty at Howard University College of Medicine and served as division lead for futures and innovation at Navy Medicine’s Headquarters, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. <\/p>\n

Dr. Tetteh specializes in cardiovascular disease management, heart failure surgery, and heart and lung transplantation. He serves in a number social impact organizations including Champions for Kids, Mentoring in Medicine and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health. <\/p>\n

Dr. Tetteh’s visit and the National Library of Medicine exhibit are sponsored by the College of Medicine Office of the Dean, the Department of Surgery, the Office of Academic Affairs, and the McGoogan Library of Medicine. <\/p>\n

The traveling exhibit comes to UNMC from the National Library of Medicine through a collaborative effort with the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture in Baltimore. Accompanying the exhibit will be a small display of photographs and documents from the McGoogan Library’s Special Collections and Archive.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
