KETV Ch. 7 morning meteorologist Matt Serwe will discuss the fluidity of Nebraska weather at the next Omaha Science Cafe at 7 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.<\/p>\n

As the morning meteorologist, Serwe begins his day around 1:30 a.m. He has been with KETV for nearly five years and previously worked at WJFW in Rhinelander, Wis., before coming to Omaha. <\/p>\n

Serwe is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and holds a degree in atmospheric and oceanic sciences.<\/p>\n

Weather in the Midwest — and specifically on the plains — presents a number of challenges, especially when blizzards and tornadoes can occur in the same area within hours of each other. Serwe said he enjoys these challenges, as well as the opportunity to learn new things because of the ever-changing weather in the middle of the country.<\/p>\n

Outside of work, Serwe has a passion for music and sports. He lives with his partner and a dog named Oakley. He often posts about his life and work on social media: @MattSerweKETV on Twitter or Matt Serwe KETV on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Science Cafes involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone (21 and older) and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. Each meeting is organized around an interesting topic of conversation. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a Q-and-A period.<\/p>\n
