Nursing students in the Fostering the Future organization will bring together other UNMC students and community members on Nov. 21, to cut, tie and assemble colorful fleece into blankets for children and adults.<\/p>\n

Called the Blanket Project, the group plans to assemble the blankets for distribution to children and adults in need in the Omaha area. UNMC faculty and staff, the College of Saint Mary, Omaha Police Department and others from the Omaha community will gather in the College of Nursing’s Center for Nursing Science third floor commons area from 10 a.m. until about 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

The blankets will be donated to groups such as the Ronald McDonald House, Omaha Police Department, Project Harmony, Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, The Foster Care Closet, Embrace the Nations and homeless shelters. <\/p>\n

Some of the recipients have few personal possessions, and the blanket is something that can stay with them to provide love, security, warmth and comfort. The blankets also can be used as lap blankets for adults undergoing chemotherapy while they receive treatment.<\/p>\n

The blankets will be hugged by students so recipients know they are made with love.<\/p>\n

The group can use donations, fleece fabric or blankets and non-perishable food. Donations can be given to organizers at the event or by emailing<\/a> to make arrangements.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
