Ryan Sallans<\/a>, a transgender speaker, author and advocate, will speak on campus on Monday, Nov. 13, as part of an “It’s on US” event.<\/p>\n

Sallans, who attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and received a Bachelor of Arts in English and anthropology, Master of Arts in English, and a Master of Arts in educational psychology, will be discussing the experience of transgender individuals accessing health care at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2018.<\/p>\n

He will provide guidance on how health care professionals can be more inclusive, respectful and responsive to the needs of their transgender patients.<\/p>\n

“Ryan is an engaging speaker, author and advocate,” said Carmen Sirizzotti, Title IX coordinator for UNMC. “We will learn a lot from this presentation.”<\/p>\n

Sallans is the author of “Second Son: Transitioning Toward My Destiny, Love and Life.” <\/p>\n

The event is sponsored by the UNMC Title IX Office and is being coordinated by EMPOWER, a student-led Legacy project supported by the Office of Community Engagement within Academic Affairs.
