Alana Schriver, refugee specialist for the Omaha Public School District, will speak at noon Thursday in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014, on addressing refugee trauma and abuse.<\/p>\n

The event is hosted by Bridge to Care and EMPOWER.<\/p>\n

The presentation will focus on addressing domestic violence within the refugee population.<\/p>\n

Schriver received her master’s in public health, with an emphasis in international health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Her current role is to connect refugee families with necessary social services, lead mental health peer-support groups for immigrant and refugee teens, and help OPS (as well as other Omaha area agencies) provide cultural competent support for refugee families. Prior to that, she worked oversees promoting community health in Central and South American countries.<\/p>\n

Bridge to Care is a Legacy Project supported by the UNMC Office of Community Engagement and the Center for Reducing Health Disparities in the College of Public Health.<\/p>\n
