The University of Nebraska Board of Regents on Tuesday approved naming the atrium of the Davis Global Center for Advanced Interprofessional Learning at UNMC the Dr. Edward and Sally Malashock Atrium.<\/p>\n

“By naming the atrium of the Davis Global Center for Advanced Interprofessional Learning after Dr. Edward and Sally Malashock, we recognize the generosity and dedication to UNMC that they have shown over the years and we express our deepest gratitude,” said Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., chancellor.<\/p>\n

The Malashocks established the Dr. Edward and Sally Malashock Fund for the Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL) this year with a major gift to the University of Nebraska Foundation. The donation was made to support the current construction of the Davis Global Center on campus at 42nd and Emile Streets. Per the family’s wishes the gift amount was not disclosed. <\/p>\n

In 1989, they created the Edward and Sally Malashock Chair of Urologic Surgery at UNMC as a permanently endowed fund at the NU Foundation that provides annual salary, research and program support for urologic surgery.
\nAn alum of both the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and UNMC, Dr. Malashock earned his medical degree in 1946. <\/p>\n

In 1965, he was the urologic surgeon on the team that performed the first two kidney transplants in Nebraska. That same year he became a UNMC faculty member and served as a clinical professor of surgery in the section of urology until his retirement from both private practice and teaching in 1989.<\/p>\n

Dr. Malashock has received numerous awards including the 2009 Nebraska Medical Center Legends Award; 2002 College of Medicine Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus Award; and the Outstanding Physician Award. He also is honored on the Wall of Honor at the UNMC Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
