February is American Heart Month, and the med center will be marking the occasion.<\/p>\n

Friday is National Wear Red Day. Colleagues can show their support by taking part in the American Heart Association’s event, aimed to help raise awareness about women and heart disease, the nation’s No. 1 killer.<\/p>\n

All colleagues are encouraged to wear red, whether it’s red socks, accessories or clothing. Nebraska Medicine colleagues who normally wear color-specific scrubs may wear a red top (regularly assigned scrub color pants must be worn). The red shirts\/tops (including T-shirts and long-sleeved shirts) must be appropriate for the work environment. <\/p>\n

For Nebraska Medicine’s business casual colleagues, any red shirt\/top worn must meet existing business casual policy guidelines<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Colleagues are encouraged to take photos of their groups wearing red and email them to Jenny Nowatzke<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Heart of the Matter Health Fair will be held on Feb. 16.<\/p>\n

Colleagues are invited to attend the heart-healthy, fun and informational health fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium. <\/p>\n

The event will feature many interactive stations with activities and information on what you can do today to prevent heart disease and commit to living a longer, healthier life. Enjoy free heart-healthy snacks and giveaways, blood pressure checks, a heart art station, group yoga sessions and more.<\/p>\n

Also, remember that the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk is set this year for May 12. It’s not too early to make plans to participate in this year’s Omaha-Council Bluffs Heart Walk event.<\/p>\n
