UNMC researchers at the Stanley M. Truhlsen Eye Institute are seeking participants for a study exploring how the eyes of children differ from the eyes of adults.<\/p>\n

Study results may help enable the design of improved glaucoma treatments, specifically for children.<\/p>\n

Glaucoma is a major cause of blindness caused by permanent damage to the optic nerve. Blindness can be prevented by effectively treating and lowering eye pressure with medication or other types of treatments. <\/p>\n

Volunteers for the study, titled “Aqueous Humor Dynamics and Biometry Parameters in Eyes of Children 15-18 Years Old,” must have healthy eyes and be between the ages of 30 and 50 and have a child age 15 to 19 who also is eligible and willing to participate. (Pregnant or nursing women, individuals with asthma or emphysema and those with sulfa allergies are not eligible to volunteer.)<\/p>\n

Participants will be invited for a one-hour screening visit to determine eligibility to participate. Eligible participants will be scheduled for a six-hour research study visit. <\/p>\n

The screening visit will consist of a complete, dilated eye exam. The six-hour research study visit will consist of eye pressure measurements, measurement of the fluid flow in the eye and measurements of the size and shape of the eye. <\/p>\n

The screening visit is provided at no charge. Participants who complete the research study visit will be provided financial compensation. <\/p>\n
