The position was a joint position with Creighton University from 1991-1998. He also serves as the vice chair for education for the department of pediatrics.   <\/p>\n<p>He will retire on June 30. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Larsen has been recognized many times for his excellent teaching &#8211; among his honors are the Hirschmann Prize for Teaching Excellence-Golden Apple Award from the College of Medicine; the 2007 Alvin Earle Award, given to an instructor who demonstrates sincere interest in his or her discipline, excellence in the quality of instruction and strong involvement with students; and the University of Nebraska Outstanding Teaching and Instructional Creativity Award (OTICA) for his excellence and creativity in teaching &#8212; the highest teaching honor the NU system bestows<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Paul Larsen is the best natural teacher I have ever observed,&#8221; said Rob Norgren, Ph.D., professor in the UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology &amp; Anatomy. &#8220;He has a thorough command of the content he teaches.  He has an amazing rapport with the students. He is particularly adept at integrating complex clinical cases with basic science principles. We will all greatly miss his expertise. I will miss him as a colleague and as a friend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Paul has been an integral part of teaching neurosciences to all levels of students M1-M4,&#8221; said Gerald Moore, M.D., senior associate dean, UNMC College of Medicine. &#8220;As a recognition of his teaching ability he was retired into the Golden Apple Hall of Fame in 2009, being one of only seven faculty members to have achieved that accomplishment.
