Alison (Ali) Slosburg, a second-year medical student at UNMC, died June 28 after a battle with leukemia. She was 24.<\/p>\n

Slosburg received her master’s in anatomy in 2016 from UNMC and completed her first year of medical school when she became ill. She had been undergoing treatment over the past year, so she decided to put her studies on hold while she received treatment.<\/p>\n

Born and raised in Omaha, Slosburg attended Westside High School and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she was a highly decorated athlete on the women’s rowing team.<\/p>\n

Her parents, Martha and David Slosburg, have been longtime supporters of UNMC.<\/p>\n

"From the time Ali was 2 years old, she wanted to be a physician," David Slosburg said. "She was a brilliant student, but always gave her time to assist others and put others first. She had a great smile and was a wonderful friend to many."<\/p>\n

Funeral services were held on July 1 at Beth El Synagogue. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the American Red Cross Blood Bank.<\/p>\n

Through the Slosburg Family Charitable Trust, the Slosburgs were among the principal donors to the Dr. Edwin Davis & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center for Advanced Interprofessional Learning, which is expected to open in 2019.<\/p>\n

Much like aviation simulation changed the flight industry, the building is expected to transform health care education by propelling the training of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals into the next generation with emerging virtual and augmented reality.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
