James Linder, M.D., has been named the chief executive officer for the Nebraska Medicine health network and replaces Dan DeBehnke, M.D., MBA, effective immediately. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Board of Nebraska Medicine is pleased that Dr. Linder has accepted this new and important responsibility,&#8221; says UNMC and UNO Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., who serves as chairman of the board of directors. &#8220;His past service as a practicing physician, his leadership in health care as well as his highly engaged role as a member of the Nebraska Medicine Board makes him uniquely suited for this position.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Linder, a practicing pathologist, has been part of the medical staff for years. He previously served as interim dean of the UNMC College of Medicine and as interim president of the University of Nebraska system from 2014 through 2015. Dr. Linder is a current member of the Nebraska Medicine Board of Directors, and as a board officer has expertise in the history and structure of the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Linder is a native Nebraskan who earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University and his medical degree with distinction from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He completed his residency training in pathology at Duke University Medical Center and UNMC. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am honored and enthused to accept this key leadership position,&#8221; says Dr. Linder. &#8220;Nebraska Medicine is uniquely poised along with our university and community partners to provide optimal care for all Nebraskans, as well as continue to expand as a strong academic medical center.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska&#8217;s Medicine&#8217;s position remains strong and the strategic direction, including its Fiscal Year 2019 objectives and tactics as well as its five-year goals, will continue. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The continued growth and success of Nebraska Medicine over the past decade has been truly remarkable, achieving numerous national awards for quality and safety of care, groundbreaking clinical research and as a premier learning institution,&#8221; says Dr. Gold. &#8220;Our board is grateful to Dr. DeBehnke for his leadership and is highly confident that Dr. Linder will maintain the successful momentum of Nebraska Medicine across all of our clinical care, teaching and research
