Megan Brown, Karen Townsley and Ted Mikuls, M.D., earned the headline awards recently at the annual Premier Education Banquet.<\/p>\n

Brown, instructional technologist and education program coordinator in genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received the Catalyst for Education Award from the UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators.<\/p>\n

She was lauded for her attention to detail and high degree of accuracy while efficiently juggling the needs, wants and personalities of numerous faculty, staff and administrators on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

Townsley, nurse development specialist in Nebraska Medicine’s solid organ transplant unit, earned the Excellence in Assessment Award.<\/p>\n

She uses innovative methods for assessment by determining the learning styles of new nurses to help them be successful. She makes assignments based on knowledge, skills and abilities of nursing staff and patient-care techs. She utilizes different teaching strategies, evidence-based practices and assessments of learning style.<\/p>\n

Dr. Mikuls, professor of internal medicine, rheumatology, was honored for Academic Contributions of Excellence in Faculty Development. He was praised for selfless mentorship, stressing the importance of collaboration to produce high-quality work while advancing current practices.<\/p>\n
