The appointment, which was announced by Gerald Moore, M.D., senior associate dean for academic affairs, was effective Sept. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">In his new role, Dr. Talmon will be responsible for educational issues within the College of Medicine and will coordinate the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation process for the College of Medicine&rsquo;s next site visit in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">&quot;Geoff will be a definite asset to the College of Medicine, and we look forward to benefitting&nbsp;from his strong background in education,&quot; Dr. Moore said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">A professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Dr. Talmon continues to play a major role in the Training Physicians of Tomorrow curriculum, which is in its second year of implementation. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his medical degree from UNMC.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">&quot;I am incredibly honored and excited to be even more deeply involved in the college&rsquo;s curriculum and to work with the talented group of faculty and staff that make our program among the best in the country,&quot; Dr. Talmon said.&nbsp;&quot;My goals are to continue to foster the use of innovative and evidence-based teaching strategies and educational research to not only provide the most effective teaching to our students but also share our successes with medical educators everywhere.&quot;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">Dr. Talmon&nbsp;serves as the James Linder, M.D., Residency Director Distinguished Chair within his&nbsp;department&nbsp;and as its vice chair for education.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">In 2015, Dr. Talmon was named the founding director of the Interprofessional Academy of Educators (IAE).&nbsp;The IAE&rsquo;s mission is to provide a resource that will elevate the level of teaching across all colleges and share innovations with UNMC&rsquo;s alumni and community partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">The IAE seeks to establish a common standard of excellence in the classroom and clinic by equipping faculty with the most effective teaching techniques to improve student learning, mentor faculty in their development as health science educators, and enhance UNMC&rsquo;s national reputation by for educational scholarship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">A highly decorated classroom teacher, Dr. Talmon was named to UNMC&rsquo;s Golden Apple Hall of Fame in 2014 after winning seven consecutive Golden Apple Awards for his teaching skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black\">In 2015, Dr. Talmon was honored by the Midlands Business Journal by being selected in its annual &quot;40 Under 40&quot; class, which recognizes outstanding young professionals in the community. In 2012, he received the College of Medicine Class of 1962 Basic Science Outstanding Teacher Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Will be
