Sara Bares, M.D., assistant professor division of infectious diseases, was recently inducted into the UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators (IAE).
\n 
\nThe IAE is a community of educators from across UNMC’s campuses, representing every college and connecting educators regardless of their college or campus. The academy’s vision is that UNMC and Nebraska Medicine become the most learner-centered organizations in health professions education.
\n 
\n"I am honored to be a part of the IAE and look forward to the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals across campus in order to learn from and potentially collaborate with one another," said Dr. Bares.
\n 
\nDr. Bares experienced the benefits of IAE first-hand when she worked with Elizabeth Beam, Ph.D., R.N. assistant professor College of Nursing and part of the IAE Leadership Team.
\n 
\n"She generously shared her time and educational research skills with me when I was looking for a venue in which to disseminate the results of a curricular design project," said Dr. Bares.
\n 
\nThat collaboration demonstrates how members live out IAE’s mission: by promoting the use of best practices by all educators, fostering and disseminating educational research and innovation, and mentoring to develop effective teachers and scholars.
\n 
\nAs an IAE member, she said she plans to learn more about curriculum design and assessment as well as new ways of incorporating active learning strategies in the classroom.
\n 
\n"I look forward to applying these skills in the formal curriculum as well as in my everyday interactions with students," she said.
