Acute Pain Physician’s Assistant Lea Sommer was awarded Provider of the Quarter by her colleagues on the 4\/5 Lied Quality Improvement Team.
\n 
\nSommer’s work often brings her to the fourth and fifth floors of the Lied Transplant Center, assisting in pain management on surgical patients. Colleagues who nominated Sommer commented on her advocacy for patients and friendliness to all.
\n 
\n“She is an excellent resource for nurses and helps our team with some of our patient’s toughest pain issues,” one nomination said.
\n 
\nSommer returned from maternity leave to discover she had been nominated.<\/p>\n

“It was a humbling surprise to come back to work and be honored,” Sommer said. “They’re a great team to work with.”
\n 
\nThe 4\/5 Lied Quality Improvement Team awards an outstanding team member once a quarter for their dedication to patient care. Team members include medical directors, a nurse manager, nurses and patient care technicians. They meet monthly to monitor quality indicators and outcomes, as well as lead quality improvement projects for the unit. The Provider of the Quarter Award began in June of 2015 to recognize team members who have made a positive impact in the quality of care for patients.
