J. Scott Neumeister, M.D., has been awarded The Herbert S. Waxman Award for Outstanding Medical Student Educator by the American College of Physicians (ACP), a national organization of internists. Dr. Neumeister is an associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
\n 
\nThe award will be presented at ACP’s annual convocation ceremony on April 11, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, in Philadelphia, where ACP will be hosting its annual scientific conference, “Internal Medicine 2019.”
\n 
\nThe award, established by ACP’s Board of Regents in 2003, honors the late Dr. Waxman, who served the ACP as senior vice president for medical knowledge and education. The award recognizes an ACP member, who is an internal medicine group leader, clinical clerkship director, program director, or faculty member, and who spends a significant amount of time teaching medical students.
\n 
\nSince he joined the faculty in 1998, he has devoted more hours annually to medical student teaching than any other faculty member, according to his nominator. Dr. Neumeister’s small-group Socratic teaching sessions hone clinical reasoning skills and foster lifelong independent learning habits. His teaching excellence has been recognized with numerous university accolades as well as a Nebraska ACP Chapter teaching award.

\nDr. Neumeister is an active ACP member who presents a variety of topics at Nebraska Chapter meetings as well as being a guest speaker for other chapters.

\nThe American College of Physicians<\/a> is the largest medical specialty organization in the United States with members in more than 145 countries worldwide. ACP membership includes 154,000 internal medicine physicians (internists), related subspecialists, and medical students.
