{"id":63669,"date":"2018-12-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-11T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/11\/presentation-examines-proposed-psychiatry-residency-program\/"},"modified":"2022-08-29T15:58:09","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T20:58:09","slug":"presentation-examines-proposed-psychiatry-residency-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/11\/presentation-examines-proposed-psychiatry-residency-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Presentation examines proposed psychiatry residency program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>The UNMC Department of Psychiatry will hold a presentation at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 12, to discuss &#8220;A New Psychiatry Residency Program for Nebraska: A Vision for 2020 and Beyond.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The presentation will be held at the Sorrell Center, Room 2018. <\/p>\n<p>The current combined residency program in psychiatry with Creighton University started in 1987. UNMC will begin a four-year separation process from Creighton and open a new psychiatry residency in 2020 pending approval by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Daniel Gih, M.D., and Marley Doyle, M.D., will be the new program directors. On Dec. 12, they will present on the new program, its training philosophy and the future of psychiatry training. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having our own residency program is a real watershed moment for the department and for UNMC,&#8221; said Howard Liu, M.D., interim chair of the department. &#8220;The new residency curriculum embraces resident wellness and psychotherapy training with a true statewide perspective on building the workforce for the future. UNMC community members from across the campus are invited to hear more about this exciting initiative.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>A question-and-answer session will be held immediately following the 50-minute presentation. <\/p>\n<p>The UNMC Center for Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 credit.
